What an incredible first experience of recording my upcoming EP. It was with some butterflies in the stomach that I woke up that morning and wondering how everything would turn out. Felix, my drummer, flew in from Oslo the night before and Tom, the bass player had been to the dentist the same day. But man what they delivered music on my tunes. It didn’t seem like they hadn’t played together for a couple of months; the connection was there. I am so excited to start working on this ground work done and just to add more instruments and let the songs grow into solid arrangements! Here are some pictures that captured this fun and special day;
This is how to carry a drumset in the right style! #drumfashion
Two hours later and we are done with the drums. I kept my energy-level up by eating fruit and dates that I’d bought… Important stuff!
We recorded drums and bass on five songs. The EP will consist of seven, but the two remaining will be more electronic in the character. I sat in the control room with a ‘producer’ ear, which was a new experience for me in a recording setting- I’ve always been singing with the band in the studio. So for this time, I could take another role and it was great. The tunes turned out really as I wanted them to.

Felix Heim is a happy guy!
Erik Metall, our sound-engineer does an awesome job. Always.
That was the start of my upcoming EP. Now there is something to build upon and the work will progress as we decide on what takes to keep and throw away. That’s a tough job. I will continue to blog about the journey from scratch to cd so stay with me here!
