Day 10 had finally arrive, the day we were all waiting and preparing for- our first live performance as the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead 2016 on the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center. In the morning we performed the set for the night to each other and received the last feedback from the faculty. One thing that we have all learned is how to make a good set; An interesting curve of intensity and dynamic so that the fire is burning throughout the whole set no matter the tempo of the song. It’s really interesting how that mindset can change and shape how you listen to music. The awareness has definitely been very helpful to make the performance better.
Selma and Fabia, on our lunch-break at the Italian Campono Restaurant. Beautiful food and location right next to the Kennedy Center.
Right then we changed to performance outfits and had a photo session at the Kennedy Center, followed by soundcheck. I was a little nervous for the performance since I had new lyrics on every song, but also very excited of course to perform while knowing that people back in Sweden are watching!
If you want to see the whole performance you can access through this link to the VIDEO. It’s all up on the Kennedy Center’s website.
